Finding Your Ideal Home

Finding Your Ideal Home By: Benjamin DeBell

"Everyone wants to own their dream home, but for homebuyers who do not take the practical steps to buy the right house, that dream home can quickly turn into a nightmare. The truth is, finding your ideal home is unlikely to just happen. You need to take action to find the house that will become your dream home:

1) Make a wish list. Finding your ideal home will not happen unless you know what your dream home looks like. Before you do anything else, start making a list of what your ideal property would be like. Where would your ideal home be located? What style would the house be? How large would the property be? Cut out images of your ideal home and make up two lists one of things that your new home absolutely must have and one of things that would be nice to have. For example, your must haves might include three bedrooms and a garage and your nice to haves might include an ocean view and a pool.

2) Get to know the real estate market. Read the real estate listings for the neighborhood that interests you and visit open houses in the area. Read the real estate section in the local paper. Get to know what is available and what the costs are.

3) Get your finances in order. You need to know how much your ideal home is going to cost and how much you can afford. Once you have become familiar with the local market, you will likely have an idea of the house prices you are looking at. Now is the time to compare mortgage quotes, investigate different mortgage options with your bank, and start saving money. Talk with a financial officer at your bank to learn how to come up with the down payment and mortgage payments for your dream home."
