Before You Apply For a Credit Card...
When you are a beginner or your credit is damaged, getting a credit card may seem a real problem. Just like getting a job without any relevant experience. But remember: there is always a path from no credit to perfect credit, however, it is long, difficult, and it requires patience and reasonability. So what do you have to do to reach your cherished aim and become a perfect client for any bank of your choice?
First of all, you should fix some stability. What does that mean? You need a job. Any bank is unlikely to approve your application if you do not have any job. So get it and stay with it for, say, two years. Changing jobs too often looks unreliable for a credit card issuer. Moreover, they will regard your places of living. In much the same way, if you resettle too often.
Second, keep in mind that your credit history contains NOT ONLY the records with relation to your loans. Actually, it includes everything: rent, insurance, tuition fee, and so on, and so on. And if you want, this is your distinctive profile as a potential borrower. Start developing your reputation with this!
After that, you are ready to apply for credit cards. But before this you have to address your requests to three major credit bureaus to obtain the copy of your credit report. Basing on these facts you can apply for an appropriate credit card. Well, there are enough offers for the customers with poor credit, so feel free to choose.
* Secured credit cards. This type of credit cards requires collateral. What does that mean? Before you apply for secured credit cards, you deposit a certain sum of money to the bank of your choice. This will be your savings account. Keep in mind that the sum is equal to your future credit limit (however, there are some offers which propose a credit limit twice the amount deposited). In case you fail to pay off your debt, the deposited money will be used to cover your debt.
* Cosigned credit cards. Someone can vouch for you, someone with perfect credit (basically, relatives). But this is risky, and everyone knows that, since, again, if you fail with paying off your bills, this should be done by your co-signer.
* Bad/no credit cards. These are unsecured, i.e. just standard credit cards. These do not have guaranteed approval, so before applying you should take into consideration one fact. There is no guarantee that your application will be definitely approved. In case it is not your credit history is damaged again.
So keep in mind that there is always a way from total zero to perfect credit. This is a long and rough road though. Nevertheless, these pieces of advice will probably help you a little before you decide to get a credit card.
